La Caso d'Elva
Rooms and apartments in old stone and timber houses, a Slow Food osteria and a wellness centre facing the peaks, in the silence of the hamlets above Elva.
The place
An albergo diffuso among the hamlets of Elva
La Caso d'Elva is an albergo diffuso that grew out of an effort to bring a piece of the mountains back to life: 11 rooms and 3 apartments in historic buildings restored with their original materials, stone and timber, at 1,703 metres above sea level in Borgata Isaia, above Elva.
A shared outdoor space — planted beds, tables and benches — ties the buildings together, so that staying here feels like living in a small mountain hamlet, at its pace.
Slow Food cooking and a sauna over the peaks
At the osteria la tàula de m'aura, Piedmontese home cooking is built around Slow Food Presidia ingredients and hand-picked local produce: the real flavours of Valle Maira, straight from the land.
The wellness centre — a timber sauna facing the peaks, a hot tub and a Kneipp path — looks out over the mountains: exactly what you want after a long day on the trails.
Elva, and the valley beyond
Elva is one of the most striking villages in Valle Maira: its parish church of Santa Maria Assunta holds the Renaissance frescoes attributed to Hans Clemer, the "Maestro d'Elva", and the village still keeps the memory of the cavié, the hair traders. All around are trails, passes and some of the finest views in the Cuneo Alps — see what there is to do in the valley.
